Vem aí, a Patagônia Expedition Race, corrida de aventura que contará com mais de 60 equipes de todos os Continentes.

The Mandatory Equipment for the
WENGER PATAGONIAN EXPEDITION RACE 2010
The list of required equipment for 2010 will be available soon. In the 2009 race, the competitors were required to bring the following :

Full Time Equipment

Personal
1 Headlamp (plus extra bulbs)
1 Fixed or locking blade knife
1 Whistle
1 Sleeping bag comfortable for humid and temperature condition of this territory*
1 Breathable and waterproof jacket
1 Polarfleece jacket
1 Pair of gaiters (recommended)
1 Pair of gloves (recommended)
1 Head covering / Buff (recommended)
1 First layer long sleeve and trousers (recommended)
1 Soft shell trousers (recommended)

*See weather conditions and consider that they correspond to the see-level
temperatures and that in the mountains they will be more hostile.

Team Equipment
1 Tent for 4 persons and/or 4 bivy sack (bivouac)
2 Compasses (calibrated for the South hemisphere, Zone 4)
1 Map for the race provided by the Organization
1 Guidebook for the race provided by the Organization
1 Satellite telephone Globalstar provided by the organization (for emergencies only)
1 Satellite telephone Iridium (for emergencies only, optional)
1 SPOT Satellite tracking system provided by the organization
1 GPS (for emergencies only)
2 Flares provided by the organization
2 Survival mirrors (can be the same ones as on the compass)
1 Medicine kit or first aid kit for the group
1 Resistant Trash bags (unloading in each PC).

* The complete list for first aid kit has been sent to the team captain before the race.



For the sections in Kayak

Personal
1 Kayak paddle (Necky Amaruk kayak)
1 Neoprene wetsuit:
If is a full-body wetsuit, minimal thicknesses: Legs and body 4mm, sleeves 3mm.
If is a farmer john style wetsuit, minimal thicknesses: 5mm
1 Padding jacket (factory-taped seams, wrist and neck seals).
1 Lifejacket (Europe EN 393 (50N) // US.C.G type III )
1 Safety Whistle fixed on the Lifejacket
1 Nautical knife with fixed blade (NOT folding blade) and protective case fixed on the lifejacket or to the exterior of the kayak
3 Glow sticks (waterproof torches)
1 Dry bag

Team Equipment
1 VHF radio (With channel 16, nautical band and waterproof case) provided by the organization
1 Emergency spare paddle, separable in two parts (each part in a kayak)
2 Necky Amaruk kayaks with spray skirt, provided by the Organization
2 Containers and sponges to take out water, provided by the organization
2 Paddle Floats, provided by the organization
2 manual bilge pumps
2 Sea-kayak tow-rope systems - the kind that is specifically designed for sea-kayaks - with "quick release system", of minimum 16m (50') in length, in a bag, either the kind that attaches directly to the cockpit or that can be worn like a belt (see examples here)



For the sections in Mountain Bike

Personal
1 Mountain bike
1 Certified Helmet
1 Pair of gloves
1 Front white Light
1 Rear red Light

Team Equipment
1 Inflator device
1 Complete Tool kit for mountain bike
2 Spare bike inner tubes and repair kit
2 Odometers (kilometers)


For the sections of Fixed Rope

Personal
1 Certified climbing Helmet
1 Climbing harness
4 Locking carabiner with security lock (minimum)
1 Double anchor lanyard (Y-shaped example) or 2 anchoring sling or 2 Daisy chains
2 Ascenders with automatic security lock (tibloc is prohibited)
1 or 2 Etrier(s) or adjustable webbing foot loop (according to the technique to utilize)

Team Equipment
Rappelling is not an obligatory activity for the race. However, if participants decide to utilize the technique for safety reasons during this race, it is recommended that safety equipment be utilized such as a rappel device and / or a 8mm x 30 mt rope.

To Transport all this Equipment

All the gear for the 4-member team must go into each bag.

1 Large Bag to hold all the kayak equipment (lifeJackets, neoprene wetsuits, all the paddles, etc.).
1 Bag to hold all the mountain bike equipment.
1 Bag to hold all the ropes equipment.
4 Bags to hold general stuff and food for the race.
1 Bag to hold various articles and change of clothing for the end of the race.
4 Backpacks
4 Bike boxes (we hightly recommend plastic boxes)

The organization will be in charge of transporting these bags.
